Posted on |
Who doesn’t like saving money on travel? Travelling can often be the most expensive part of having a vacation and saving money on travel is one of our top priorities. However, with some planning and creativity, you can travel without breaking the bank. Here are some ideas and money saving tips for budget-friendly travel on how I generally save money on travel and holiday:-
Plan
Money-Saving Tips 101: I always prefer to plan and trust me, it always works for me, so book your travel well to take advantage of early bird deals and discounts. It applies to everything from flights and hotels to car rentals and activities. The earlier you book, the more you’ll save.
Set a budget
Money Saving Tips 102: Setting a budget is always helped me not to spend too much. I always determine how much I can afford to spend on the trip and stick to it. It will help you make more informed decisions when booking travel without breaking the bank.
Be flexible
Money-Saving Tips 103: Being open to different travel dates, destinations, and modes of transportation can help you find the best deals. For example, travelling during the off-season or midweek can often get you lower prices. I always keep an eye on the latest off-season deals that help me grab the best ones.
Use comparison websites
Money Saving Tips 104: I always use sites that compare prices across multiple airlines, hotels, and car rental companies to find the best deals. These websites will often show you the cheapest options available.
Look for discounts
Money Saving Tips 105: Checking for discounts is my hobby, and I love to dig for various discounts, so always check for deals such as student discounts, senior discounts, and military discounts that may apply to you. Many companies offer discounts for these groups, so it’s worth checking to see if you qualify.
Use reward points from credit cards & Loyalty programs
Money Saving Tips 106: I have saved huge money using my miles from credit cards, Loyalty program points. Many credit cards offer rewards such as points or miles for travel-related purchases. These can be used to book flights, hotels, and rental cars. Some credit cards also provide travel-related perks, such as free checked bags or priority boarding. Make sure to pay off the credit card balance to avoid interest.
Loyalty Programs are my favourite; they cost you nothing and are easy to join. Lookout for loyalty programs with Airlines, hotels, and rental car companies that offer you to earn points or miles for each purchase. These can be used to book travel or redeem other rewards such as upgrades or free nights. One of my friends suggested I combine credit cards and loyalty programs to get even more rewards by using a credit card that earns points or miles on travel purchases and then using those to book travel through a loyalty program. For example, you can use a credit card that earns airline miles to book a flight through an airline’s loyalty program.
It is essential to compare different options to find that best suits your needs. Also, read the terms and conditions of the credit card or loyalty program, as some may have restrictions or expiration dates on rewards.
Use budget-friendly options
Money Saving Tips 107: It depends on your budget and travel preference. However, in my opinion, you can save so much money in budget hotels, so consider budget-friendly options such as camping or Couchsurfing to save money on accommodation. These options can be significantly cheaper than traditional hotels, saving money and allowing you to experience the local culture uniquely.
Pack Smart
Money Saving Tips 108: I can’t emphasise this more pack as lightly as possible, as many airlines charge for checked bags. Also, be mindful of the weight of your carry-on, ensure it complies with the airline’s regulations, and avoid hefty fees for excess baggage. Trust me been there and done that!
Shop around for activities
Money Saving Tips 109: Once you arrived at your destination, shop for activities and tours. Prices may vary widely, so it pays to do your research. It works out well, especially when travelling to Asian countries. On my last trip to Thailand, I saved by booking with local travel agents instead of booking online or with travel agents in my home country.
Use public transportation
Money saving Tips110: I always prefer to travel by public transport when I am abroad to get a real feel of the place. So instead of renting a car or taxi, consider using public transportation. It also allows you to experience the local culture uniquely and often works out to be a cheaper option.
Look for package deals
My last holiday to Fiji was way cheaper with virgin airline package deals (Tickets + Hotels). Booking a package deal that includes flights, hotel, and car rental or activities can often be cheaper than booking each component separately. So many airlines offer seasonal package deals that can be booked from the airline website.
By following these money-saving tips, you can save money on your next trip without compromising on the quality of your experience. Planning and creativity allow you to see the world without breaking the bank. Happy travels!
